When people first get a hold of a pet, they try their best to take care of them. Just providing food and water isn't enough, for proper care of your pets you should also provide them with recreational activities to do and a comfortable place for them to stay in. owning a pet generally means that you have to dedicate a portion of your time and money to take care of them, but some people don't have enough of both to spare for a pet. So what kind of pet is most suitable for those kinds of people? The answer is quite unorthodox to say the least, try to keep a pet land hermit crab. This may be an odd choice for a pet, but if you take a look at the pros you may think differently. For one, maintenance cost for taking care of hermit crabs are very low, they do not induce allergies to people (unless they are ingested, which you won't do to your pet anyway), and they are relatively friendly to people. Now aren't those things enough for you to change your mind regarding pet hermit crabs? Although it is said that there is only a minimal cost when having a hermit crab for a pet there are still you really need to purchase. First and most important of all, you will need a container for your pet. The optimal container for hermit crabs is a tank. Any type of fish tank will do. Next is to put sand in the tank, hermit crabs really like to burrow themselves in the sand, whether to rest or to molt their skin, so make sure the sand you put in is free of insects and debris. Those are the basic things that your hermit crab habitat needs. And be careful when putting in the water in the tank, you shouldn't put just regular tap water in there and put in a dash of salt and hope that it's the same as seawater. The ph levels should be correct in order to keep your hermits satisfied. You should use real, authentic seawater or if you are nowhere near a beach then you should purchase seawater from your local pet store. The tank water and the humidity inside the tank should also be maintained at a level that is comfortable for the crabs. You should also give them extra shells just in case they get too big for their current shells they will have a new home to move into. And regarding hermit crab food, they will eat anything. Fruits and vegetables will do just fine as your hermit crabs' diet, they aren't really too fussy with their food. And even though they are called hermit crabs they really do not want to be alone. If you want to keep a hermit crab as a pet it will be better if you have more than one. They thrive better when there are a number of them living together.
